Pros

Opportunities to contribute directly to matters aligned with the mission. Generous benefits. Many smart, passionate, and driven employees.

Cons

Checkr claims to value transparency, but this doesn’t appear to be the case. Difficult questions and concerns raised are addressed vaguely and in a roundabout manner. One example of this was highlighted recently after the company announced a reduction in workforce. Many high performing employees were laid off, while several poor performers are still employed. There was never a completely clear or honest explanation given to employees as to how the decisions were made. The entire core HR team (with the exception of a couple people) is grossly incompetent, yet all their jobs were safe. To expand a bit on HR... they are a seemingly untouchable clique built only upon favoritism and personal liking. The blatant nepotism in that department is alarming, and it’s absurd that it hasn’t yet been addressed. Almost everyone on the team came from a company where they all previously worked together. 90% of them are functionally inept and don’t even attempt to conceal it. The general consensus is that employees have zero faith in HR, and many have felt disregarded or unheard, especially since we started working remotely. In a time as scary and uncertain as this, people want to be able to turn to a trustworthy and comforting source in their workplace, and they’re just not getting that with Checkr’s HR team.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review. I assure you that every review is shared with our C-level exec. Layoffs are always hard, but our executive team and people team did our collective best to make it as smooth as possible. The decision process was not a simple one, and I hope you can understand there were several checks and balances and lots of analysis involved. There is certainly always room for improvement and it will never be easy. Appreciate your critical feedback and wish you luck in your next journey. - Arthur / Recruiting
