Better companies to work for

Pros

nice office, smart peers, great perks

Cons

Management is awful- systemic racism and bias that HR covers up for terrible leaders. Makes employees sign NDA so they can't share how bad it really is. HR gets on Glassdoor to respond as quality control but trust the reviews! HR couldn't care less about people. Executive leaders all need to be fired with the exception of the good ones they let walkout.

Thanks for your tough and critical feedback and sorry to hear your experience leaving wasn't a good one. But for the record, no one asks/mandates me to respond to reviews - I do it so that people know it's being read and escalated internally. I've seen first hand the care and attention the People team puts into ensuring people are treated fairly. And our People team is made up almost entirely with people of color who care about fairness. I certainly don't believe Checkr is perfect - there are many, many areas of improvement that we need to address immediately, but we have always tried to show we care about people. Again, I'm sorry your experience felt contrary to this - but I wish you the best of luck in your next role and hope you and yours remain safe amidst this pandemic. - Arthur / Recruiting

Taking the fair out of building a fairer future

Pros

Overall, a great lesson in empathy and humility for those who were driven to understand why background checks are so important. A great place to grow a career, make friends, have a good time while working towards a meaningful vision.

Cons

[Mis]management sinking faster than the titanic. Culture disbanded; core values are mere office decorations. Upper-management come and go like flavors of the week. I knew it was time to go when HR explicitly and verbally instructed me to play politics between the various departments. What's more - accountability is missing. Numerous mission-critical products (BetterFuture, Continuous Check, Instant Check, Health & Drug Screening, Progressive Screening) have been abandoned or orphaned, while other "quick wins" drag on for months + placed years down the roadmap. At the same time, frequent customer emergencies (looking at you, Uber/Lyft/DoorDash/Instacart!) take significant parts of the company offline as multiple managers need to scramble to identify and assign individuals to take care of the problems. Only to then operate at a loss, ship a lackluster band-aid solution followed by arbitrary layoffs (mainly in the Customer Success and Sales teams... as if they were responsible for the product operations), and, equally arbitrary promotions. That being said, the recently hired Success and Sales teams also don't have a clue what they are doing! Expect every performance review to be scored at 4/10 or less, for you, your team, your department and the company en large. There is a strong clash between the explicit values of Getting Stuff Done, Ownership, and, the actual value of One-foot Out The Door.

Appreciate the critical feedback and will certainly share with our exec team. While I do think several of your points are incorrect, I can understand there is frustration that shapes your perception. Culture remains a key part of what makes Checkr great, and it hasn't and never will be removed from the interview process. We wish you luck in your next role and invite you to join the Checkr alumni network on Linkedin.
