CEO has unrealistic expectations

Pros

The people who do the day to day work are absolutely amazing and care about the work they do. People are extremely collaborative and are super smart. People are fun and always willing to help.

Cons

Leadership is out of touch. They are micromanagers but actually lack the knowledge to do the work. The CEO is narcissistic and puts his ego before the company. Attrition is really high and quiet layoffs for the past two years.

Pros

Some talented colleagues who genuinely care about their work.

Cons

• The workplace culture at Checkr is toxic and heavily political, especially within Operations. If the VP and Senior Director of Ops don’t favor you, you’re likely to lose your job quickly. They only hire their buddies from previous companies and are very clicky. • Checkr promotes a high performance culture but fails to reward employees accordingly. Merit increases are minuscule, often capped at 1.5%. Management is discouraged from giving higher performance ratings to limit salary increases, which fosters dissatisfaction and demotivation among employees. In fact, during the recent layoffs in April, they managed to let go of high performers after shoving it down our throats that high performance was the best way to prove our worth. • There's a lack of transparency in decision-making processes, particularly regarding performance evaluations and career progression.

Pros

Checkr's a good product and 90%+ of the people there are great - collaborative, friendly. Pay is good.

Cons

Leadership at Checkr causes major issues that permeate the company - toxic culture. Daniel, the founder and CEO, has single highhandedly created a culture of anxiety and fear. Daniel regularly belittles and demeans his people in large meetings. Numerous employees expressed anxiety and lack of psychological safety in the company. He's incredibly insecure and egotistic and anything can set him off. You can be a great business leader or a great human being - unfortunately, Daniel is neither. Rest of leaders support this behavior by inaction.
