IT Department is overworked, under-appreciated and have had their fill.

Pros

The people in the centers. Staff members are honestly great, hard working and care about what they're doing. The majority of staff and doctors in our centers believe in the cause and it shows.

Cons

IT Department has been seemingly restructured down to less than the bare minimum. Nobody I know feels safe in their position and the mantra of "Do more with less" has been taken to the extremes of insanity. The entire department is constantly walking on eggshells due to to the leadership (Or lack thereof). Barely any room for career advancement, lateral moves are the norm and usually remain uncompensated and are often short-lived. I, (And many others) feel the whole company is gradually disintegrating since the restructure and it's a damn shame because we once had a close, hard working and appreciative department which has turned into a "Watch your back" mess. For a company who's 100% reliant on EMR/IT it does not bode well, to witness this happening is a crying shame.

Pros

Good benefits and a talented group of IT professionals

Cons

Incompetent leadership with unrealistic deadlines and no consistency in goals. The ongoing saying in the department is “what is the plan today”. Critical business decisions are made in a vacuum, without seeking input from the engineering and development teams. No one trust or believes anything that upper management says. They will say one thing and a week later do the opposite. The CTO is either incompetent and has no understanding of network infrastructure, or he is diabolical and purposing sabotaging the IT department so he can outsource it.

Be careful with non-compete contracts.

Pros

The only pro that I could think of is that there were great employees in my team. Very talented.

Cons

The non-compete is part of your offer letter; read it very well before signing. Non-compete contracts go as low as a manager or regular employee positions in the company, contrary to other companies where the agreement is mostly required for C-level positions. The non-compete is too restrictive; you literally cannot work in another primary care employer in a 10-mile parameter for two years. Take into consideration that ChenMed is almost everywhere where good-paying jobs and opportunities are. They will enforce the non-compete agreement even if your new employer is not their direct competition. They're very jealous of their workflows and business intelligence. This is ok; however, sometimes you need to print a document for training purposes, but they wouldn't let you- they're always afraid that you'll take the document home or give it to the competition. This made employee and onboarding training challenging. Also, it is a family-owned company, where an adjusting curve may be present. If you're coming from the corporate world where most positions are gained with hard work or your credentials, don't get shock if your new boss is the CEO's in-law or another family member.

Thank you for your feedback. Your review has stated some serious generalizations and completely misstates our company’s non-compete. I would urge you to reach out to our legal department for more information about the non-compete and how that applies to you. As applicable, our non-competes are narrowly tailored in time and scope, applicable only to competing businesses so that no employee should ever feel that they are unable to work after they leave ChenMed. Please reach out so we can clear up any misunderstanding.
