It started out great and went horribly wrong.

Pros

It's a fun place for children and most of the people are really nice. The benefits were good at one time.

Cons

The place is very top heavy. The managers are not qualified to manage and the atmosphere is very hostile. In all the years I worked there the last 10 were a nightmare. Racism and cronyism is running wild.

Sad but true

Pros

Children's is just as good as people say that it is. I always took pride in saying that I worked for Children's Medical Center. Clinical care is top notch. Front line staff care about the patients first and foremost. They take pride in what they do.

Cons

Senior leadership is out of control. There are tons of vice and senior vice presidents, many of whom are working in direction opposition to one another. There appears to be no system of checks and balances. No one seem to be evaluating the system as a whole. This is specifically apparent within Information Services. The corruption allowed within that division is unprecedented. Shuffling staff to other jobs because they are not well suited for the position they are in. Staff not allowed to take, or disturbed while on vacation because no one else has the knowledge to troubleshoot critical systems. Manipulation of control to initiate upper level positions. The creation of a program to specifically provide work for 'friends & family' - none with any IT or even healthcare experience, then the use of expensive contract workers to bring them up to speed. All of this appears to be sanctioned by the president / vice president level who reside in an ivory tower ~ never seen or heard from and unknown to front line staff.

Pros

Mission and work space. The families we serve. Coworkers who are amazing. Doing work that makes a difference in the lives of children and their families.

Cons

Disconnect between Sr Leadership and operations. The culture is rough. Politics often gets in the way of great work being done by dedicated hard working employees. Opportunity for professional growth is rare. Higher salaries and new opportunities often go to people brought from the outside.
