Management needs work

Pros

The mission is to make life better for children and most strive to do that. Pay is good.

Cons

Run like a business and not a hospital. Managers are not nurses and have no clue how to care for patients. Costs are very high compared to other facilities across the country. Benefits are expensive. High turnover. Management is awful. Corporate structure is confusing - too many “leaders” with different visions

Ok Pay, Lack of Growth

Pros

Depending on your unit, pay is highly competitive for the field. Benefits are competitive and the organization does encourage personal development (classes, tuition reimbursement, etc) Some business units are taking steps to catch up to being a "modern" office space like casual Fridays or work remote days. It is all business unit specific and not standard practice.

Cons

While the organization encourages development, they make it extremely hard to advance within the organization. There is a strong sense of favoritism and not everyone has to play by the same rules. Management is out of touch. Clinical and non-clinical staff often take the same trainings or are expected to follow the same guidelines that do not translate between the two.

Pros

If you can get into Children's, your resume will be highly impressive and people will respect your work. Being in the foundation doing development (fundraising), there is great leadership and the culture is shifting to keep up with the times. There is a strong sense of job security and compensation is strong for the amount of work put out. Good work life balance and incredible work being done to make life better for Children.

Cons

There are too many people that work here -- management needs to cut out the old and bring in new. There is also not a lot of room to move up within the organization unless you leave and go somewhere else, then to come back.
