Hours can be long. My current job is only 40 hours but I have been on 50-60 hours a week for months with no end in sight on others. Pay is salary so if you're working longer hours or weekends, it's unpaid and upper management doesn't really care, it's considered part of the job. Some of the higher ups are starting to retire and the new Lansing management seems to be still trying to figure out their roles. One of the most frustrating things I've found is that upper management will purposely not give you heads up to your next position. It seems like manpower is an afterthought. I do believe it's partially planned, but there is some backwards thinking that the information should be kept secret on purpose. My understanding is so that it keeps complaints down about assignments and keeps you focused on finishing your current job. It's a problem because people are brought into the job unprepared with no heads up (I've seen quite a few times in just the last year where people are told literally hours beforehand) and it can take weeks to get up to speed on a project. No one ever asks your opinion (or says anything at all) on what types of projects or locations you would like to be part of. There are 3 offices in Michigan and people tend to stay close to their assigned offices, but I see people going from Lansing to Grand Rapids and Detroit (or further) and vise-versa. Though it tends to be Lansing sending guys out and very few being sent from other offices to Lansing. Thankfully I haven't had an unreasonable commute and I don't think many do, but I've seen 2-3 hours for a few people. Yearly reviews are all over the place. There's no clear boss above you. No one tells you or your manager if it gets changed on paper.
