Great people, diverse environment, hard working team, great product, nice work space/office.

Cons

There is a bit of "exclusive crowd" among long time employees and management.

Thanks for your feedback, especially about our need to get even better about encouraging long-term employees to reach out to our newer team members. We're addressing this through quarterly New Employee Meet & Greets and, of course, our long-standing company picnic, holiday party, and Pop-up Happy Hours.

Pros

-Lovely people who, like others have mentioned, are intelligent, passionate, and funny -Working with books is a joy -Good benefits and fun parties -No idea is ever too silly or outlandish -You can never be bored -Upper management is quite accessible

Cons

-Low pay. The profit sharing program is great, but should not be a substitute for a raise, especially in the Bay Area. Comparing salary to other publishing houses doesn't really make anyone feel better when this area is saturated with tech companies that pay nearly double for the same positions -Can feel like there is a hive mind -Would benefit from hiring more diverse employees, including more men, to help bring new ideas to the table

Thanks for taking time to give us your feedback. We're proud of the creative and open environment at Chronicle Books. We've also launched our Diversity Initiative Group that is looking at all the ways we can raise awareness about diversity and inclusion and improve our outreach to an even more diverse pool of future employees.

Pros

The people at Chronicle are a joy to work with-- they are all extremely intelligent, passionate about their work, and kind.

Cons

One of Chronicle Books' weaknesses is training up their new hires, so employees must be comfortable with taking initiative with their own growth and learning. Also, salaries are on the low end, especially considering San Francisco/East Bay prices, but benefits are good.
