Pros
You can be given opportunities quickly if you're in the right place at the right time, and if your reputation is strong. Great ability to move around across the organization once you prove yourself. Great thing is that although roles are very narrow you do have the change to try new things and move around over time. However, be careful of getting stuck - people need to know who you are, and relationships (like everywhere) are critical. People ,ake up their mind quickly about you, and word travels fast.
Cons
Absolutely need a champion - if you or your group get caught up in the politics you're toast.
