Pros

33% staff discount. 75% x3 times a year on work shoes. 28 days off per year. Team leader role, work 30 hours a week and get 2 days off. Our manager allows you to book time-off in advance for special dates, etc... Regular performance reviews for all staff, which is really helpful in identifying area's that you are strong in, and other area's where you need to improve. Good quality uniform which is comfortable, and enough to get you through the week.

Cons

30 min un-paid break for 8 hours work. Have to turn up 30 mins before your shift (unpaid) to prepare for your shift that day. Key holders usually out of the shop within 15 minutes of the store closing however there have been numerous times when I have stayed there unpaid to complete extra work (anything upto 9pm), when I mentioned this to management I was told it was my fault for not working faster. so I work on average for 45 mins 5 days a week unpaid. 6 months into a year contract and I am still not being paid the promised wage per hour for a team leader position, I am being paid the same as a sales assistant. Senior management are reluctant to close the store themselves. Get out of the shop at 7.45pm on a fri and have to be back at 8.20am next day to open on a sat. Department targets, shop targets, individual targets. Must hit a consistant % throughout the day, no matter the day. Hourly target briefs for sales team, must challenge them when they are not performing (this includes myself). You get told off more than praised. Senior management are always right, and you are more than often wrong. It is common place to see bullying and be bullied in my workplace. I do not have the same approach of senior management, which means I will not demean, harrass or bully other staff. This is why it has been so hard to fit in to their organisational culture. To summarise they use negative influence as a means of motivation. I have seen how it can really demotivate the team, the athmosphere can be so dense you could cut it with a knife. I would like to point out however that the above is only relevant to the store where I work, and I do have faith that the company and its organisational culture is not like this.
