Pros

Salaries and benefits are excellent and the scheduled holidays cannot compare with a corporate environment. Working environments greatly vary between departments and schools.

Cons

Salaries and promotions are not based on merit, so hard work does not pay off in public school systems. Administrators often give key positions to friends and family. Many processes and systems are extremely outdated , management is resistant to change.

Pros

You get the opportunity to work with children who truly need guidance and a loving environment to go to. At the school that I worked at, supplies were easily accessible. Whatever I needed (as far as supplies), I was able to receive without having to spend a dime of my money.

Cons

Other than the pros, not many. The fact that they are basically begging for employees with signing bonuses and such speaks volumes. There are very UNprofessional staff on all levels. Administration is allowed to get away with subpar work and of course responsibilities trickle down and are expected to be top notch. I was disrespected by students, staff and parents on a regular basis. Principal watched me get cursed out. I could go on and on. Don't do it, don't do it! The money isn't worth your sanity.

Pros

My coworkers were good.Everyone seemed to work together in their own groups. The mentorship program was really good And the community activities we did as a school were well done

Cons

This is related to first year teachers... Feels as though you are only working by yourself Most of the time with very little instances of help county wise. You don't really see those in charge of your department. All that often unless they come to you, which in my case was very little. Management of students and management of their expectations was nonexistent. It seemed that those the students would get away with a lot of things just because the management did not want to do their job. Communication with management has difficult and repairs for any damage.Items you need for the classroom is nonexistent.
