Pros

I was an engagement manager during the year COVID disrupted the world. And COVID hit CV hard! It wasn't as much the infections, it was more the complete disruption in everyone's life. When combined with an aggressive sales team what decided to bid on projects regardless of our ability to execute, this resulted in a pretty horrible year for all at junior levels in CV. But, the company did make a lot of money and seems to have raised even more from their owners. They are expanding in Europe now, and part of me dreads how this CV culture will translate to Europe (Hint: Europeans do not appreciate sweatshop culture)

Cons

Understaffed and undertrained freshers man the front in CV. Not that they aren't good, just that they do not have the skills yet to perform. But, CV projects these freshers to clients as McKinsey level consultants and charges them McKinsey level hourly rates. The result in disappointing work that clients strongly pushback on. This results in a vicious cycle of engagement manager screaming at analysts and consultants and never ending work. At the end of the day you have massive burnouts and attrition

Pros

Great learning opportunity - you get a lot of responsibilities early on, which propels you to grow quickly.

Cons

Zero work-life balance. Toxic and competitive work culture - you're expected to work 60+ hours every week with very little appreciation. There are some good managers and teammates, but overall people tend to be competitive (rather than collaborative) and are looking out for themselves. Leadership often overpromises, and managers want to over-deliver. Timelines are often as short as possible. Very little pushback from leadership or managers when there is scope creep. All of these factors lead to non-existent work-life balance and unpleasant work experience.

Pros

I was here for only 1 year in 2017-18. I moved from another consultancy, a UK based global one, to CV. Even back then, it was becoming very clear that this place was coasting on past glory. I spent a year before moving to a business insights position at a large pharma MNC in New York.

Cons

All in all, I would not repeat my experience at CV and I would not recommend it to other. There were, probably still are, some great consultants and analysts at CV. But the layer above creates does not know how to run projects. They are all at CV because they are good at getting into the good books of the partners. We do all the heavy lifting and get all the projects and get all the criticism, while they take all the credit. There is no training to speak of and the poor analysts learn everything by working long hours and weekends. However no one is given any credit and work just piles on and on and on.
