CEO is horrible

Pros

Individual teams can be good to work on

Cons

The CEO (James Clarke) is ego driven. From his very first day with the company, he has consistently demonstrated a total lack of care about the people within the company, and thinks everyone should be willing to sacrifice their entire lives for the business, while not providing a single reason why. He will insult and belittle employees, lie directly to them, and then spend 20 minutes complaining during a company call about how everyone is so mean to him. He has repeatedly told the entire company that we're not good enough, past employees weren't good enough, and that we need to do better. He never stops complaining long enough to bother to provide anything resembling a plan, vision, or strategy for the company. These are the exact opposite qualities a leader of a company should have.

More bad than good

Pros

Remote work. Oh, wait. Half-day Fridays. Oh..wait. Flexibility and work-life balance? Oh...never mind.

Cons

I had to rewrite an old review that was titled "More good than bad". In the last year+, our CEO James Clarke has shown us that he, in fact, does not have our best interest at heart. In a sweeping attempt to..I'm not sure what.., he mandated a 4 day/8 hour in-office return and removal of half-day Fridays, effectively implementing a company-wide pay cut while giving employees two weeks to figure out the logistics of finding child/pet care, extra cars, how to afford time and gas for long commutes, etc., etc. Like many others, I had taken James at his word and when he promised no layoffs and no mandatory returns to office, I believed him. Like most others currently at the company, I was hired during the pandemic when Clearlink was selling their "permanent" remote-first perk. Waiting until the job market was tight to require such a life-changing policy is borderline horrific. I've never experienced this level of demoralization and I can say first-hand that the productivity that James said would occur has definitely swung in the opposite direction. I don't know who is advising this man or if the level of narcissism he exhibits prevents any advice from being taken. Either way, this was such a bad move, I have to wonder how James earned his level of success. Truth? The reason we're in a bad position as a company is that all the seasoned people left. More truth? It's going to happen all over again. Whether people quit immediately or wait until they find a new opportunity, the level of attrition is going to be insane. You can't treat people like this without serious backlash.

Pros

My team is the best I've ever had. The non-executive level workers are amazing, hard working, friendly, and cooperative. I even like my direct bosses like the managers and directors, which is a first for me.

Cons

James Clarke, CEO, just offered employees $5,000 to quit within hours of his declaration so that he wouldn't have to do layoffs and pay unemployment. He is in the process of destroying this company, morale is plummeting. Despite the promise of a remote first workplace Clearlink has now required all employees within 50 miles of the building to return to work with less than 2 weeks notice. Even if they have newborns, even if they have disabilities, requests for exemptions have been denied. This year they went from offering free healthcare for employees to charging a monthly premium. They have also gotten rid of any perks like half day fridays. Everything that provided a healthy work/life balance has been removed.
