Pros

Excellent education seminars; treated well with a beautiful hotel conference room, good food, and gratis At Macy's, 3% commission on Clinique AND all cosmetics /fragrances Good co-workers Gratis from Clinique 3 times a year (not including school) Annual Christmas gift from Tiffany's I feel respected and valued by Clinique My clients are truly the best part of my job.

Cons

Both Clinique and Macy's shoot us in the foot by offering online incentives (sample bundles) far superior to what we can provide at the counter. For a client just replenishing her stock, why come to me when you can go online and get your stuff, plus great freebies? I strive to make my client interactions worth someone coming in by tips, tricks, advice and samples I do have. And I'm fortunate, I have the second-largest clientele at my counter. But we get told to do more, do better, when our sales are being siphoned off by the same people holding our feet to the fire. Macy's management is awful. They have it out for my counter manager because she's older and they want a newer, younger, less-expensive person in her spot. Micromanage, nit-picking, never compliment. Negativity trickles down to counter staff. It feels like we can never do anything right, even when do better than other lines in sales or customer feedback. NO room for growth. After counter manager comes Account Coordinator, which they eliminated in my area. Account Executive oversees multiple states.

Pros

I love this company. I entered my location (review could not be submitted without a specific city) as NY, NY where the corporate offices are located. If I revealed my location this would not be an anonymous review and might be considered a "suck up" to management. I live and work in a southern state. Clinique is a terrific company with many perks. Best training in the industry. We are treated like royalty when we go to seminars and meetings. Gratis skin care and makeup. Deep investment in employee development. Reward is great! Much is expected, but there is always a contest with a significant prize to go above and beyond. When I was selling i was paid hourly AND got commission. In my current job I have an amazing bonus opportunity. High sales= great pay potential no matter what position you hold. When I go to the doctor and they review my medical benefits I have been told on more than one occasion that my insurance is truly the best they see compared to other patient's benefits. There absolutely IS opportunity for advancement. Almost everyone who is now an executive came from the sales floor. I happen to have a B.A. in Psychology, but no degree is required for advancement. It does take hard work, but anyone can grow with the company. Best part is that Cinique is an ethical company with a long history of commitment to all emplyees and clients. We are constantly told to "under promise and over deliver". This is not an advertisement for the company. I am a low level executive in the company and cannot possibly benefit from my review in any way.

Cons

If I just HAVE to give a con (I tried submitting without one) I guess I would say that there is little "down" time. If you are not a mover/shaker you probably would be better off with a job that is not in sales. This is anonymous, so I could say anything I want and could even vent if I wanted to, but Clinique truly has few down sides. At least for me, it has remained my dream job, but it may not be for everyone because of the super high standards. I see some negative reviews here that I truly can say have never been part of my own personal experience (and I AM ..."keeping it real").
