I was abruptly laid off via phone call twenty minutes into my shift due to "the recession and how a negative economy affects startups". My accounts were deleted moments after the phone call and I never heard from my coworkers or supervisor about it. This was a position that I was reached out to by a recruiter for, and a new hire started on my team two weeks prior to my layoff, so it just seems like improper management or an attempt to replace me.
