Pros

Good staff discount and colleagues.

Cons

Increased workload yet reduced hours. Promise of more hours from online orders (Just Eat, Deliveroo etc.), yet hours nowhere to be seen. You’re lucky to work with two other people on a closing shift. In this shift, you’re expected to work delivery, keep up with food orders, all while serving customers and trying to stay positive. I’ve left the company for this reason. Horrendous HR issues and you’re expected to break your back to help out; it goes beyond “going the extra mile”. You’re guilted for taking your break if there’s work to done, breaks are also not given fairly and legally. Team Leaders frequently work back-to-back shifts so they’ll finish at 10pm and be back again in the morning for a 5:45am start. This is completely illegal. Something needs to seriously change.

Thank you for your review and for sharing your concerns with us. We are sorry to hear about your experience, and we hope you felt able to raise this with your manager at the time so it could be looked into and supported. You are entitled to 11 hours consecutive rest in every 24 hour period, and this is built into our scheduling systems. When any changes are made, managers should take this into account, making sure colleagues are able to take their rest appropriately. We recognise that in some situations, particularly for colleagues working one on one or in exceptional circumstances, it may be more difficult to take uninterrupted breaks due to the need to provide a continuous service. In these cases, colleagues should be supported to take compensatory rest at the next available opportunity. With our home delivery partners, each store's allocation of hours is based on the items picked. It is the responsibility of the manager and/or team leader to plan how these hours are used when the store is busy with online orders. If this planning is not done effectively, colleagues may feel the strain. Prioritisation needs to be carried out on a store-by-store basis, planning other tasks around busier periods. Thank you again for your feedback, it is important in helping us continue to improve our colleague experience.
