Pros

This is my first official part time job whilst I am still in education at college and I have been thoroughly delighted with the warm welcome from other members of the staff as well as members of the public. I was offered great shifts that worked around my college life & always offered overtime.

Cons

I would perhaps recommend a stronger training programme and to be shadowed for a certain amount of shifts until everything has been learnt, because from my experience I was, in a way, thrown into the deep end and although the work is quick to grasp and learn I feel that there are certain grey areas in my job description that I need an extra hand to help with when the moments arise's.

Pros

They pay everyone the same, not less if you're younger like other companies and is above minimum wage for co-operative food cashiers. The uniform is tolerable, not ridiculous like some other companies. There's always a chance to progress through the company if you're good at your job. Staff discount and coupons are good at Christmas times etc. You get to learn a lot of things about general running of the shop other than working at a till and are expected to carry out other tasks as part of your job. Are flexible if you have other commitments like children or college. Flexible in the sense that if you go to your manager and ask for a specific day off (in my experience), work the rota so you can have that day as your day off which is good because you don't have to use any of your holidays. Over time is usually available.

Cons

Really strict on things like hair colour and style, piercings and tattoos. Even though the pay is decent, is still less than other stores like lidl, asda and sainburys. If you don't have any children or other commitments then you're expected to work full availability (6am-10pm) even if you have no means of travelling to work other than taxi which is expensive and will not be reimbursed. Never seem to offer anymore than 24 hour contracts to cashiers or team leaders.
