Pros

Excellent culture, people are genuinely willing to help and support one another. Starting from the most inclusive and caring CEO I've ever worked for, down to any new starter, everyone I've ever worked at the Co-op wants to do the right thing. The digital technology department I work for allows for maximum flexibility and autonomy. I'm working on stimulating tech projects so I'm rarely bored. I feel my expertise is welcome and respected. Work-life balance is excellent and managers truly care about employees, especially when they have special needs. I've been very lucky in my last few years at the Co-op and I intend to stay for as long as I can.

Cons

The Co-op being a brick-and-mortar business means that sometimes there's a bit of a tech debt. Things can get slowed down by complicated processes and dependencies. It might be a bit difficult to wrap your head around that if you're used to natively digital companies. That said, lots of talented people are improving things and that's more than enough to overshadow any frustration I might have when things don't tick along as fast as I was used to in previous companies

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. It’s brilliant to hear how supported and included you feel in our Digital Technology team. We’re proud of the culture we’ve built, and it means a lot to know that colleagues across levels are helping each other do the right thing. It’s great to hear that you’re working on stimulating projects, and that your expertise is valued. Flexibility, autonomy and genuine care from managers are all things we aim to deliver consistently, so it’s encouraging to hear that reflected in your experience. We understand that working in a tech function within a wider retail business can bring complexity. Your point about tech debt and dependencies is well made, and it’s good to hear that talented colleagues are helping to move things forward. Thanks again for your continued contribution.

Pros

Good culture, nice people. Great opportunity to move into different roles once you’re working for the co-op.

Cons

Slow to make change, too much bureaucracy. Held back by complex IT systems and business process.
