Pros

The pay was pretty good considering it didn't require previous experience or special skills (though photography skills certainly help). Mileage reimbursement and bonus really add a lot to the income. You'll only get your bonus if you complete the term, though (for temporary employees). Management was pretty supportive overall, though since they're in a completely different city, there can be some miscommunication at times. But they're quick to respond and will help if you're having trouble. Sometimes it felt like they were a little clueless, but it's just because they don't know anything about my city. It's a pain to deal with a long-distance boss, but a little patience will get you through it. If you like to work independently, apply for this job today. You have to call in and out and handle the occasional call from your manager, but that's about it.

Cons

Cleaning up other researcher's poor data is terrible. There's not much in the way of standardization, and the software is pretty terrible and not at all user-friendly. They quality check the data, but from what I can tell, it doesn't take much to pass. Some people obviously take advantage of this and do just enough to get by. After all, if the company is a thousand miles away, how are they going to know? You can kill yourself trying to get all the data perfect. Again, patience is a big help here. As far as the field work, it can be kind of frustrating and intimidating. People have no idea who you are and get very suspicious if they see you snooping around writing down tenant names and taking pictures. You can explain what it's for and that CoStar actually helps the building management out a lot. Some people will be cool with it, others will call security and kick you out of the building. It probably gets easier to deal with after a while, but temporary employees aren't very convincing to suspicious people. If you can "sell" the service to the property managers, you're more likely to be welcome, and they might even help you out by just giving you the rent rolls.

Pros

Benefits package is competitive. If you're just out of college or switching careers, you'll be able to survive on the salary. There were a lot of other recent college grads at the company, which basically amounted to a few like minded kids to share in the misery of the job itself. It's pretty difficult to think of 100 words worth of positive information about this company. Most of mid management were nice people with good intentions. It's not their fault that upper management seems to make decisions on a whim and couldn't care less about the rest of the employees. I'm sure mid-management was schooled on "absorb and restate" when it came time to tell employees of the newest change in direction and were subsequently pelted with criticism from their audience.

Cons

You are the definition of a corporate drone. Reading from scripts, chasing elusive and meaningless metrics, dealing with absurd requests and requirements (the term "TPS Report" will come to mind frequently), and realizing that this job will not progress you toward any meaningful career will make up the majority of your day. The brokers you call don't want to speak to you; you're considered a glorified tele-marketer. Your input on the job itself will be ignored without even the pretext of understanding. The job and all things associated with it are shockingly reflective of Office Space, except far more depressing.

Pros

Pay scale was reasonable. Located close to public transportation. Bethesda, MD. is a nice city to work in.

Cons

Lack of trust between senior management and employees. Micromanagement from CEO. Favoritism. Fearful work atmosphere. Ideas are rarely shared or heard. When I worked there, every employee except VPs and higher, had to punch a time clock, and there were no "safety zones" in terms of time. If you arrived 10 minutes late, you had to work 10 minutes late that day, or you'd be deducted time - in half-hour increments by the way - from either your vacation or sick leave. It made everyone stressed. As management, I was not encourage to share my ideas or think creatively. Disagreements between management, line employees and the CEO resulted in chastisement and derision. It was an unhealthy work atmosphere all around.
