Pros

Work remotely, lots of autonomy, great health insurance, two weeks paid maternity leave

Cons

Not able to reach your boss when you need help (my boss was in a different city and only answered my phone calls/emails about 5/10 times), lack of involvement/accountability from management, company changes direction too frequently, commission plans change frequently (average of every 3 months while I worked here), accounts/territories not assigned evenly, your commission is based off a giant spreadsheet that is not ever accurate, preference placed on senior employees, lack of training/on boarding process, not much room for advancement if you don't want to move into management.

Pros

Great benefits and decent pay for what you do. Nice office facilities with the gym and snacks. A great start for those who want a career in real estate. An extensive training at the beginning which provides with a lot of useful information and general knowledge about real estate. P.S. Apartments.com came out super nice! Great job!

Cons

Just like I said, a very nice call center. If you are not comfortable talking to people on the phone all day long, this job is not for you. What essentially the company does: it makes its researchers get information from the brokers and other people involved in real estate for free, and then sells it back to them for a certain price. Ultimately, this business model works, since the company is growing and keeps buying its competitors. But the question is how much YOU are willing to be the one bugging people for information, getting hung up on (in the best case scenario) and yelled at (in the worst case scenario). A very harsh daily metric that keeps track of how many calls you do, but fails to measure the actual productivity.

Thanks for your feedback. We’ll take your points about streamlining the CRM back to the development team. Calling can be tough, but it’s the most important part of our work. The reason each of the top 100 brokerage firms in the United States use CoStar all day, every day to do their jobs is because we have become a standard source for commercial real estate information. If we don’t communicate with them, they won’t be able to close the deals they do. Researchers provide value to the people they call, helping them to earn a living by putting their information online. Like anyone else, brokers and other real estate professionals can have bad days or be busy, but with consistent communication our researchers build relationships with their contacts that make the job easier for the people on both ends of the call. It’s the work of exceptional researchers that builds strong relationships and it’s those relationships that keep clients with us five years or more at a 98% renewal rate.
