Pros

Beautiful building, recently the benefits/environment have improved greatly, people were great to work with and looking back I had a great experience.

Cons

Making countless phone calls every day can be a drag. While I enjoyed many things, learning the software top to bottom (helpful in the CRE world), work was tough at times.

Pros

The benefits are great. They do a great job of taking care of their employees. For example, they provide great snacks in the office, provide extensive training, and give you the tools you need to succeed.

Cons

The company tries to accomplish too many tasks and many of the projects do not blend well with each other. Also, they are too metrics driven and do not pay enough attention to the quality of the work. They tend to look just at the numbers.

We work hard to provide our researchers with ample training to set them up for success in the job, and we love hearing our employees have been able to benefit from it. We appreciate your feedback, and take reviews like yours into account as we continuously evaluate our practices to improve the workplace at CoStar Group. Looking at researchers’ activity to measure efficiency in the role is a part of Research that will never be able to go away, however the leadership team has changed the way they look at the information. Emphasis is on quality of work over quantity, and we look at the value of information added to the system and the development of relationships with clients. Managers are responsible for determining how their teams function, including how the team takes on any necessary projects or working with any employees who appear to be struggling, and provide ways to help them improve. Research has time and time again taken on new tasks that have an urgent need to be completed to provide clients with more robust information, and it does not go unnoticed. Researchers’ hard work and resourcefulness are recognized by senior management, who weigh those factors in future roles and projects that help to give those individuals more opportunity to grow at the company.

Thanks for the feedback. While there will always have to be some form of measurement to evaluate the work researchers do on a daily basis, any change comes from efforts to evolve the system for researchers to both understand and feel more comfortable with what is expected of them. For example, in the last couple of years the focus has turned away from quantity and now looks more to qualitative measurements, such as the relationships and connections researchers are able to make with clients. There is a level of fluidity between markets and teams, but changes often come about from a researcher’s request to focus on a new market – emails sent out to the department notify them of openings on teams, allowing individuals to inquire about those openings. At CoStar Group we invite curiosity in our employees to try something new, and encourage them to not only seek out new positions within the department on another team, but also to apply internally for positions open in other departments and office locations when they feel the new role aligns with their career plans.
