Pros

Central location, free tea/coffee, fellow researchers, decent salary, I have nothing else to say but the pros require a 20 word minimum!

Cons

I could write a novel! Ran by Americans who have no clue on cultural differences. Agents in the UK are not commission based like they are in the states & most literally do not have the time to talk to us. Agents recruit competent admin staff who can answer the majority of questions as that is what they are paid to do but that's not good enough for CoStar. They have also introduced an absolutely ridiculous call target of 20 calls (over 90 seconds) a day & expect overtime to be done in order to actually get any data on the system. A "script" has also been produced with an introduction & branding & benefit statements for us to say on every single call regardless who the call is to or how recently you have spoken to that person. Researchers are literally getting laughed at by agents or hung up on. There is also no support given by any managers to the majority of people that are struggling. People crying in the office is now a daily occurrence! It's a real shame as CoStar used to be such a great place to work. It seems they have lost their way & all they can see are call numbers. Doesn't matter how much data (which our clients pay for!) you have added, if you haven't hit those call numbers you are in serious trouble!

Thank you very much for your time and hard work with us. We value this feedback. Our metrics are carefully tailored to help drive the quality of research forward, help researchers improve and drive value for our clients. The essential work that research performs drives CoStar forward and that’s why we’re laser-focused on it.

Pros

The researchers are all great, really friendly hard working bunch of people. Flexible working hours are good. Holiday entitlement improves the longer you are with the company.

Cons

Where to start! This company is not what it once was. Everything that was once good about the place has gone. This is a call centre you will spend the majority of your time scratching around looking for calls to make just so you can hit a number and keep yourself out of the firing line. The focus should be on the quality of the data that you are entering onto the database as that is after all what the clients are paying for, if it is verified then it really shouldn't matter if it comes via email or website. The targets are beyond ridiculous causing extreme stress and demotivated staff. No one in the office wants to be there, in fact I don't know anyone that isn't looking for new employment. Just when you think things can't get any worse they move the goal posts again and make things even harder. Bonus! Forget it not worth your time or stress, you will have to work out with your core working hours to get it and even then it will be pennies. The atmosphere in the office is toxic you can literally feel the tension when you walk through the front door. They may as well have a revolving door as the amount of leavers has got to be at an all time high. There is no respect for senior management anymore the office is run on nothing more than fear. The only thing keeping this place afloat just now is the team managers and they dont get any credit for their hard work either. As someone has said previously, if you are considering joining costar my advice would be the same as their's, DONT!

Pros

The office is in a very good location, and they had a nice amount of free hot drinks on offer to have whilst you're at work. I was paid fairly well considering the easiness of the job and achieved a bonus regularly. However, these conditions appear to be vastly different (and much easier to achieve) than the permanent staff. They were also very flexible with my hours.

Cons

I was hired as part of a temporary project they were running for the launch of their new iPad app. The first 3 months were actually quite pleasant and I was really enjoying my first endeavour into non-retail jobs. However, from there the flaws in the company became apparent. For one, management directions changed constantly, and thus it lead to confusion within my team regarding how to perform their job correctly. It was very targets based - my team had to complete 4 buildings an hour each, which was doable if they were simple buildings, but it left very little room for sorting out the really difficult buildings which were in an awful state. This caused stress, as falling behind on work could result in a quick dismissal. Many of the employees on my team were fired without any form of warnings, which caused tension within the office. We worked in a room which was separate from the rest of the CoStar Glasgow, which was isolating but we were mostly fine. However, the room became incredibly hot during the summer - again probably breaking health and safety law on working conditions for offices. Water and fans were provided but they did very little else apart from this. In terms of management, they appear to be slaves to company doctrine. I saw very little independent thinking from managers, it was CoStar's way or no way. We were also told we had to confirm anything we didn't know with the tenants - people who quite frankly didn't want to talk to us or knew very little about our questions. I stopped calling after a while as most information could be derived from tenants web pages and Google street view, but CoStar seems to believe in the importance of telephone calls. Quite frankly phoning was a waste of time 99% of the time. I would also like to add that CoStar encourage what could be described as unsavoury work practices. I am unfortunately unable to go into details due to the rules of Glassdoor, but the encouragement of these work practices have lead me to conclude that as a company CoStar are immoral. Finally, I would like to add that whilst we all accepted we were temporary workers, CoStar definitely made us feel insignificant. Our isolation from the main office couldn't be helped, but we didn't receive the same benefits as employees despite some of us working there for more than 6 months (I was there for over a year). We didn't receive the same holiday entitlements or were invited to the lavish social events they put on for the "real" members of staff. I would only advise working here if you are absolutely desperate for money. There appears to be little room for advancement in this company, and turnover was very high amongst the main office staff.
