Pros

It seems that the CEO paints a rosy picture to investors. Billion dollar company fit for growth. But talk to actual employees.

Cons

This is a sweatshop pure and simple. You are your bill rate. If you are a contractor - there will be zero respect and rates are lower than other contracting agencies at the same client. There are also cultural dynamics with how some of the offshore transplanted leaders interact with subordinates. I see the word Diversity thrown out, but there are many culture clashes with the offshore team, particularly if you are female and difficulty gaining basic human decency.

Pros

The best experience I had was the free 3 week vacation

Cons

First of all, when you get hired you are not told where you are working because it’s a consulting company. However, they tell you during your training that you will know before the training ends where you are working. I went through a 3 week training with 30 individuals in which NONE of us were placed by the end of training. After going through multiple interviews with clients for a month I was placed on a project with an internal client. The perk of being a consultant is being able to bill your client, but working internally I did not get that option and the company does not compensate for this. I worked nearly 12 hours a day, having to do all my managers work when he was busy dealing with personal stuff and all of the offshores work that they didn’t feel like doing. My manager never had anything positive to say, I was verbally abused everyday. Also he would take credit for all my work and present it to higher ups as his own. However, when there was negative feedback he would then copy me in the email chain telling the whole department that is was my fault, even times when the work was his own. There is no communication between anyone at this company! After my project date got pushed back multiple times and my manager leaving half way through because his visa got denied, I got an email telling me my project was ended and to not come in anymore. I had 5 weeks to find a new project, apparently, where no one contacted me with projects in my location. After the 5 weeks was up, I received a call from a random women at 7pm telling me that I was fired. This company is a joke. Extremely unprofessional and has no regard for their employees. They hired 80 new college graduates but can’t find me a client to work for. They will continue to hire and fire recently graduated college students , it’s a vicious cycle.

Pros

I have been with Cognizant for little shy of 10 years. I have worked for their India , USA and Mexico facility. It has great technical acumen and good micro management skill. Policies are mediocre but they adhere to what is written in books. Retirement and other benefits are mediocre as well. If you want a long term less shocking career it’s good.

Cons

Bias management. The company is full of a specific section of Indian employees and all goodies are assigned to them. I found management to be unethical and unprofessional. On one occasion I got an email from my the then supervisor to give good feedback about his boss. He was trying to influence us because he wanted his boss to get promoted. Shameless and spineless managers!! HR is also powerless because when we complained about it they took no action whatsoever. The manager should be kicked out for violation of ethics. You will be given silly excuses when it comes to promotion and you should be assured that if you don’t have a back up you will not be promoted even if you’re exceeding expectations on a regular basis. Work life balance does not exist. Trainings are worthless. Best trainings are booked for special section of people who hail from a certain section of India. It’s a global company for namesake and I found it to be governed and managed by only one section of people.
