Pros

Free coffee! Customers are generally happy to interact with bank personell, unlike other institutions where you cobstantly hear the empty threat of "ill close my account and go somewhere else." Updated fascilities. Consistent and fairly set hours. Closed major holidays, and free medical, dental and vision.

Cons

Umpqua bank purchased Sterling Bank in April of 2014. From that moment, Umpua Bank let the Sterling upper management start making decisions. This was a financial instition that was failing, and they have now turned Umpqua into a less than desireable work place. With the majority of Washington Umpqua customers being former Rainer Pacific Bank customers who had already gone through an aquisition less than 5 years prior, this mergerer created an even larger upset. Along with upsetting the customers of the institution, multiple Umpqua top performers and long time employees were let go due to overstaffing, although it was asured several times by management no cut backs would be made. Umpqua bank used to be a different type of bank. With the unfriendly associates from Sterling Bank who do not posses the culture and drive of Umpqua associates, Umpqua has now fallen short of mediocre in the sense of desirable work settings / coworkers.

Pros

It was full time with benefits. The offices are beautiful and updated technology.

Cons

Cut hours, buys out small banks and fires employees that have worked close to 30 years. You feel like a number, and unwanted if your company was bought out make sure you look for another job or you may not have a job at the end of the day.

3.5 Stars Overall - Stable, Not Much Advancement Opportunity

Pros

Good in quite a few respects. Stable work environment, good work-life balance. Good amount of employee recognition. My own department and manager is outstanding, but caliber of supervisors and management overall can be spotty. This is a perfect place to work for those who want to do one job for a very long time, or if you just want to coast through your last few years to retirement.

Cons

If you are looking to grow and move around between different departments within the company, this is very difficult as the positions and various departments are spread out between different states and there is no relocation assistance. Benefits are just ok, 401k plan and tuition reimbursement perks are skimpy. I have not personally seen significant upward mobility among co-workers, there tends to be more lateral movement. The culture can have a cult-like quality as well, and for many positions the pay is either not very competitive or it caps out quickly. One can tend to hit a career ceiling rather quickly, depending on individual aspirations.
