      Pros

      I have worked at several high profile/brand recognizable companies that did not provide the work/life balance and job satisfaction that I currently enjoy at Umpqua Bank. Senior Leadership is business savvy, strategically minded and very thoughtful regarding the employees and maintaining the UB culture (fun, learning and supportive). My employer is thriving because of it's business acumen, willingness to evolve and by empowering the innovative/creative talent on staff. No wonder Umpqua is an employer of choice and 25th on Fortune's Top 100 Employers.

      Cons

      Like any growing organization there is opportunity to process improve and make strategic changes to the infrastructure ensuring continued and future successes.

      Pros

      If you are hired from a position of strength, it can be a very good place to work. The environment is generally pleasant, and a fair number of individuals scattered throughout the organization actually believe in the lofty culture ideals and mission.

      Cons

      Other than key personnel and managers, employees are not valued. Internal communications are as slickly marketed as the external ones, but the truth is in the financial statements. Cost cutting on employee salaries and number of positions is high on the list, and work-life balance is answered with "we're not about to slow down, so keep up or find another job". Don't expect a promotional increase of salary to ever match inflation. Do not attempt the foot-in-the-door approach, internal hiring between positions is made so difficult for managers that they rarely bother even interviewing you.
