Micromanaged And Micromanaged...

Pros

Great location off Michigan Avenue, by the Chicago River. Sometimes, the CEO's secretary gives free Bulls and Blackhawks tickets away. Great co-workers. Near public transportation (a 10-15 minute walk from the Metra or the Red Line). Not a bad position for a fresh-out-of college, entry-level position.

Cons

The micromanaging is killing morale. Management is installing software that records your calls (even if your job description does not require you to be on the phones), both outgoing and incoming calls. Management is also installing software that records your keystrokes when you're processing a claim or assisting a customer. You will get a "We have our eye on you" memo if you take 2 sick days within a 90-day period, even if there is no discernible pattern with those absences, and even if those absences are months apart. Also, regarding benefits, you are only allowed three sick days per year. I also witnessed a former co-worker (who was a great worker and team-player) get terminated in the most obvious and ham-fisted way imaginable. The paper trail that was used to terminate this employee was sudden and flimsy, I've seen people suddenly "banished" to other departments. These were stark reminders that no one is safe.

Pros

Leader in EAP. That's it.

Cons

Pay and benefits are a joke. Not a friendly or fun place to work and Mgt does nothing to fix this. Physical environment is dumpy and no money put back into it. Sr Mgt respect and fear CEO so they don't dare report that anything is wrong in their departments. CEO does not care at all about the employees or their happiness (company parties are so cheap it became a joke in our department and we nominated it to a radio show). CEO cares only about making money cause he wants to buy a sports team (he puts .75 if every dollar into his pocket from what source in Mgt and finance told me). FMLA outsourcing service is terrible and failing as Employers put it with LTD carrier (they should sell this to someone ASAP). Moral is horrible.

Pros

Bagel Day and being able to wear jeans on Friday's

Cons

Ugh...was let go today for no apparent reason...none of the warning I was given made any sense. Management said I was making errors even though I wasn't. Pay is extremely low an they don't care about if you are sick. It's not a great place to work. Career opportunities are not plentiful and the benefits suck
