Pros

Meeting others, hotel stays, sales training program is great

Cons

Unreimbursed travel, low commissions, even lower commissions after 26 weeks, too many dissatisfied existing and previous customer base. You can very well drive over a hundred miles per day to put out fires or cancel a policy. Added, the company office staff is rude to field / account execs as well as customers. A "commissioned employee" means you can still be charged charge-backs (new clients may switch to a more recognized carrier.) Your W2 will not reflect your true earnings from Ace Insurance. There is just too much to bother with to sell for this company... Cap Weeks are monthly travel to an unfamiliar city to sell insurance. You stay in a nice hotel for a week to isolate you from other employment, family, etc for morning meetings and more travel until the evening. This is a "traveling salesman" position, not for everyone. It was not for me and I have no problem with that truth.

Pros

Entrepreneurial, you really are your own boss. If you have experience in the marketplace and some connections already it could be a good place. They are growing a lot so you could create a good business for yourself within this company.

Cons

Its hard to find good experienced people to help you when you are starting off. Be prepared to teach yourself everything, and when you need assistance from home office you will need to ask multiple times and probably multiple people before you get an answer to your questions. Their growth means managers and home office service staff usually use the excuse 'I have been too busy...' to respond to seemingly easy requests. Those who have been there for years are too few and truly are over worked. The new people just don't know or follow up with answers/assistance. Within last year+ I have seen too much turnover. I tried to partner with managers and trainers (national director of learning and development as well as regional) to help learn systems/products/implementation ideas and each time after making a connection a month later the person was gone.

Door-to-Door Cold Calls on Businesses

Pros

Very good training program; two-weeks in length, paid, out-of-town.

Cons

In spite of what I was told when hired, the bulk of my job consisted of going door-to-door to 15-20 small businesses a day, making cold calls in an attempt to obtain business. Store owners usually very irritated that we disrupted their business to try and sell life/health insurance. Plus it's all commission work.
