Pros

If you end up in an "island of excellence", as I did (Capron Rehab) it can be wonderful. I was a half-time staff RN.

Cons

I had the misfortune to come down with a bad gall bladder. The Penrose surgeon botched the job. I spent two-plus weeks in a septic coma and damn near died. The day before I staggered home on a walker (57 days later!), I was FIRED "because I could no longer do the work"! My family's health insurance went away a month later. Never so much as a "we're sorry" from the hospital leadership. I figure they blew five of those seven "values" they are so proud of. At the same point in time, one of my RN peers came down with breast cancer. She too, was tossed into the street.

Pros

There used to be a lot (EIB, 403b, grandfathered PTO plans) but that was cutting into the bottom line so they were all taken away.

Cons

Management doesn't care about non-revenue departments or the people in them. Employees are nasty to other employees, HR does nothing about complaints about management except tell the employee to suck it up. The turnover is huge and all new people want to get rid of the long term people because they cost to much

Pros

With such a large organization you are given the opportunity to develop new skills and continue to work your way up

Cons

Unfortunately Centura Corporate leardership is very blind how their staff is managed, the poor processes that hinder good work to be completed and how their "big ideas" are ineffectively rolled out. It again is a big company and they don't have a good handle on how to manage all the work that needs to go on to support their hospitals. After working 80hrs and asking both employees and vendors to work weekend and nights to complete a project I had expressed my concern to upper management of the expectations they were putting on their staff and I was told that the CEO and CFO of the hospital and the corporate Centura did not care what we were going through. "Just get it done".
