Pros

Commonwealth Cares giving back program, and some of the people. Bagel Friday's were nice and professional development courses were great if your job allows you to attend.

Cons

Very low pay, not a good work life balance. Little time off for new employees. Lots of patting themselves on the back but not really caring about the individuals. They are all talk and no action in a lot of areas.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about the challenges some departments have in making time for professional development—particularly when your job has you on a phone queue. To address this concern, we are offering more and more desktop-based e-learnings, and are looking into micro-learning platforms that would provide a convenient way to dip in and out of lessons. Lastly, we know those hallway snubs you speak of. They happen all too often—and it’s definitely not just the partners. More often than not, folks in the hallways are rushing from one meeting to the next—or caught in deep thought while pouring a cup of coffee. Indeed, a little eye contact and a smile goes a long way. Pros

-Company has plenty of money to wine and dine employees. -Prides itself on doing little nice things here and there, free food. -Laid back environment where they let you do your thing.

Cons

-Pay is generally low. -Prevalent sexual harassment that no one really shouts down, and it comes from high up. -Lack of diversity from the higher-ups, for instance, there is only one female director. And in addition, there are no African-Americans. -They train staff to not provide clients much information, which is disheartening and not at the center of being indispensible.

Pros

Strong corporate culture (when not forced down your throat), great people to work with (who are not in management roles), laid-back atmosphere, great "starter job."

Cons

Several, starting with an out-of-touch group of leaders. Poor management in several departments, especially within operations, human resources, and product research. Nepotism and favoritism are the only ways employees can be promoted, transferred or praised,and many managers are in their roles based on tenure and not performance. Professional development is lacking even though it is one of the main components of the organization's mission. Flip charts of lists and limited discussion does not constitute top-level professional development. Looking to get promoted or switch jobs? Good luck! Those decisions are made even before the job posting is public. While it may have once been "anything but common" Commonwealth Financial Network is as common as anything else.
