Pros

CIS of Central Texas's direct service staff are the most passionate, dedicated, caring humans I have ever had the please of working alongside. Our Program Managers, Caseworkers, Coordinators, AmeriCorps Members, and other direct service staff love what they do and care deeply for the students and families that we support. I've never worked with more committed individuals.

Cons

Senior leadership is terrible. Our executive team outwardly fights with each other in power struggles in all-staff settings, and especially in leadership team spaces. Our CEO and COEO get paid nearly half a million dollars between the two of them each year; which is a gross overage and potential misuse of public funds. Initiatives are pushed out rapidly with little or no thought to how they will impact overworked staff, and when staff feedback is collected it is held onto by executive leadership and decisions are then made without consulting those who they support. It's awful to watch an organization who so proudly boasts a DEI focused mission be so hypocritical and autocratic in internal policies and decision making processes.

Pros

I loved working with the kids and the faculty. I felt really comfortable working with them, and they were forthcoming and willing to work with me as well. I had long term goals and plans for the long haul, and the environment within the school was very accommodating to my vision.

Cons

The management was terrible. Absolutely terrible. Every time I asked for help, I never got it. Every time I proposed an idea to them, they turned it down, stating that they didn't have the money...and then I was told that I didn't do enough in terms of events! Well, when everything you ask for gets shot down, what do you expect? I learned they were soliciting funds from around the community from various charities, I was told they did not receive them, while at the same time I was approached by said charities about how I was using their funds. Be very weary of an executive director who says he's there to make money and doesn't care about social services or education. If you do happen to work for this company...if they make a promise...ASK FOR IT IN WRiTING. and save it.
