Pros

Great people to work with; more of a horizontal structure with an open-door policy; lots of altruism and good, sound ideas to really help the communities served.

Cons

Too much office politics to get things done; too many meetings to do small things; Directors/Managers don't always know what's best for front-line projects and outreach.

Cut-rate social services

Pros

Flexible work time for some employees, great mission, solid work in delivering social services with minimal red tape. Some programs really shine.

Cons

Low pay, little paid time off; high turnover. Quality of supervision varies considerably by program; management is not living up to its own stated organizational values, and includes unethical, racist, and sometimes illegal behavior.

Pros

Flexible, great people, purposeful work

Cons

HR - simple tasks take much longer than they should, there's a general lack of communication, responsiveness, and professionalism in this particular department.
