Bad management

Pros

Good salary, good benefits and a great office.

Cons

Worked as software engineer for 2 years. The work would really depend on the team you are hired into. Some times go great work while other teams not so much. There are lot of components which are developed by different teams. There is absolutely no coordination among teams which leads lot of missed deadlines and blame games. The management in engineering is especially horrendous. There is absolutely no planning and when they are questioned on it, they fall back to "we are like a startup " line which is funny since they are a big enterprise company. And a bad location to have a company. It far off from everything and only way you can commute is by a car.

Pros

Commvault's product is amazing. No one can contest that. The new HQ is gorgeous and is a great selling point for future NJ employees.

Cons

Management has no idea what it takes to get the job done. They never ask or help, they dictate and then get mad when the end result isn't what they expected. Don't expect a raise if you get a promotion. While automation is the end game, it takes time and people to get the job done. They need to understand that people are your best commodity and you should treat them well. While the product is amazing, it's also complex. Enablement is low for employees and partners and it's not helping anyone.

Pros

Really great people, not just my team but other teams very helpful. You get the sense we are all pulling together and vast majority of people I have met from Bob Hammer down to support team are genuinely enthusiastic and enjoy helping everyone win. I'm on the sales side so lots of pressure and work sometimes very intensive, but otherwise manageable. Compensation is good and competitive. The new headquarters are frickin awesome!

Cons

There are sometimes product lags despite an awesome development team, so what customers want sometimes involves future product releases, but that's typical for software. There are some systems that don't work so well internally, but Commvault is at least small enough that it doesn't necessarily interfere with getting the job done. Don't know about career opps, there is a long ramp up time, just trying to ensure I contribute. Compensation models for sales seem to change or always be in development.
