Pros

Working as a field technician provided for a flexible work schedule and if the company had a lot of client contracts you could practically write your own paycheck. I worked 50 to 60 hours a week when I wanted to which was great. Management was easy going, helpful and supportive plus you had the support of other field technicians by phone if and when needed.

Cons

As long as there were a lot of client contracts available the work is out there for you to take. The down side is when the clients stop renewing their contracts and the work dries up quickly. That happened in my area and the work dried up quickly.

Pros

It was my experience you do have a lot of opportunity to learn and get exposed to practices and procedures. They do leave the door open to get industry certifications for free which is great. My immediate supervisor was as good as it could get but he can't save a poorly run company.

Cons

The company is struggling to keep contracts and stay relevant. This leads to turmoil and inconsistency. The upper management has been anti field service tech while trying to reduce costs. They've added more chiefs to explore other areas at the expense of field service. I put 40k miles on my vehicle working for them in this last year. Tenured employees get more vacation time than any new employees will ever get. There is no upward mobility, no raises, and if you apply for a lateral position they may not even interview you.

Pros

Some of the techs are great to work with and very helpful. Get your certifications (they pay for those) and get out. No other pros, this company sucks!!

Cons

They overwork their techs, a very thankless job. They are not family friendly and there's no such thing as having a personal life. No raise for over 7 years, not even a cost of living increase. They get their bonuses every quarter but nothing to the people doing the actual work. Management is secretive and disorganized, a definite "boys club" environment. They keep talking about getting "back to basics", but nothings materialized except for getting worse every month. This company is going downhill and will drag everyone with it. Any job opening that you see on any job board is completely false... they do not offer good medical (very bare bones and expensive), competitive salary (compared to whom?, their starting pay is the lowest out there and just as bad if you have experience and certifications), great working hours (only if you like working from sun up to sun down, working weekends and being on call every other week), there's no such thing as formal training - it's all learned everyday that you work ( no classroom training or computer based, it's all done by certifying on the manufacturers equipment and that's it) and you have a job as long as you do as you're told like sheep or you're out of a job. They rule over their employees with fear and intimidation. There's no bonus, performance or otherwise, unless you're a manager. They never hire from within, lots of talented techs in the field to choose from. No advancement opportunities whatsoever, you'll be at your job for as long as you stay with them. The best advice I can give anyone... run from this company as fast as you can... not worth the stress and headache. You won't have to give them unpaid time just to get some work done and there's lots of it once you're home. I would rather work at a fast food restaurant than here, at least there they give you a raise yearly, even if it's a small one. They hire more and more VP's and senior management every month which means more money to the top and more taken from the bottom.
