Pros

There is security if you hold a senior technical position. Remote working is possible. Friendly teammates. A good place for young, motivated engineers looking to learn. A nice stepping stone to someplace better.

Cons

The Cons are numerous if you are a newer employee, but compensation is the most glaring. The company is owned by an investment firm and has acquired quite a few other VARs in the recent past. With each acquisition, there is an influx of talent. Unfortunately, newer talent, even those with strong technical expertise, are usually placed in roles below lesser qualified individuals. It's usually not an issue as YMMV with whomever your manager may be, but many have been stripped of the additional benefits that should have been grandfathered in. My vacation time, negotiated to compensate for the below market compensation under the previous company was reduced to the level of a new employee. I made a little over half of the salary of what I used to make working in engineering and they didn't understand that the vacation was there to supplement the income loss. On top of that, I had the most experience in my group and took on projects that were beyond the abilities of my seniors. When given a promotion to a senior title, my tiny raise was the last straw. It wasn't far off from an annual cost of living adjustment. I left to a competitor and was immediately offered 30k more for the same role and title. The disparity is alarming. Take a look at reported engineer salaries at CATI and then take a look at a competitor like GO engineer. It is consistently lower and embarrassingly barren when it comes to 6 figure salaries. As others have mentioned, it's a boys club. I have seen brilliant people leave because of frustration over how they are valued. They typically move on to bigger and better because that is either where they came from, or have the domain knowledge to belong there. CATI is hiring smart and motivated young graduates, but all of their true subject matter experts have left or are considering it. The burden of carrying a very heavy workload does not come with proper compensation.

CATI Review

Pros

I really enjoyed working with many of my colleagues and was very grateful for my time with MCAD/CATI. The company has great benefits as well, so you're well taken care of with healthcare, vision, dental, matching 401K, etc.

Cons

As a growing company, it's often difficult to get organized, which is understandable. CATI acquired MCAD Technologies, the company I mainly worked for, and a year later acquired another company, but I don't think there was enough time in between to get everything sorted (systems, employees, communication), especially when it came to roles and responsibilities. After the two acquisitions, we were left with three directors in my department, leaving little growth for me within the marketing department. Ultimately, I had to make the decision to further my career and pursue another job. Having multiple directors and no true leader led to a team who did not communicate well. Communication across departments was another major issue.
