Once Great Company Ruined By Thoughtless Leadership

Pros

Great opportunity to get experience, develop skills, and learn how NOT to lead. Constant Contact was once an extremely employee and customer first culture where opinions and viewpoints were heard and actually listened to. That is no longer the case. The only thing keeping most tenured employees there are the quality of health benefits and the notion of "the evil you know now is better than the evil you have yet to discover".

Cons

Siris and Clearlake installed leadership are far from leaders. The entire c level suite the the epitome of how NOT to lead an organization. Company leadership is so far out of touch and doesn't show an ounce of employee pride. They put on a face in company meetings (if they are even held on a consistent basis) then immediately closing the meeting and bad mouthing the employees that participated in the meeting. The Constant Contact product used to be a market leader however after years of product mismanagement and lack of development, the product is no longer competive in a dying industry. They just launched SMS marketing.....5 years too late. Automation components are surface level and years behind the next closest competitor. Company objectives, churn expectations, and revenue targets are not obtainable. Would not be surprised if the brand is sold off in the coming year as a customer count buy, and the entire company is gutted.

Pros

My first few years at Constant Contact were incredible and it was one of the best companies I worked at. Management cared, there were lots of annual promotions, culture was flourishing. You get to learn incredible technologies, rotate on different teams, and it is a very fun company to work at.

Cons

All the pros being said, this last year or two have been horrendous following our acquisition by a private equity company. It is clear that they don't care about our employees and are only here to make a profit. This is obvious seeing that we are seeing one of the largest rates of attrition the company has ever seen. There have been almost no promotions for an entire year despite employees picking up the slack for everyone leaving. Culture is coming back too slowly to the company, upper management is throwing out initiatives that they want, but not what the customers want.

Pre-acquisition CTCT will always be the best company I've been a part of

Pros

Awesome coworkers Laid back culture Tuition reimbursement Good benefits (401k match) Pre-acquisition CTCT was the BEST. The people were great, the culture was amazing and it seemed like everyone really had a common goal to deliver the best product to our customers and help them every step of the way. The company parties were unmatched, they took care of the employees and you really felt like you were part of something great -because you were. There was great collaboration in many cross-functional teams who's goal was really to help small businesses succeed.

Cons

Post-acquisition, not so much. Instead of being focused on what's best for our customers it really became about getting the most $$ from them (which really doesn't seem right considering the cater to SMALL businesses). It trickled down from the top and hit every facet of organization. So much so that most of the great people who had genuine interest in making a difference and delivering quality left in droves. After that it kind of became post apocalyptic almost. The culture completely shifted and those that were left seemed to stay out of necessity instead of want. If you're passionate about what you do, are looking to make a real difference (and some real money), consider other options (I did and it was the most difficult but best decision I have ever made).
