Pros

This is a hospital where you can break into the medical field or gain patient contact hours easily, there is tuition repayment plans, however you must commit to working for years at the company, so consider it wisely. There is a potential to move up to Nurse Assistant 2 or Nurse Assistant 3 which comes with a pay raise. You don’t need to be certified and they will hire people interested in the field without experience and train you. If you are new to the field this could be a good fit.

Cons

No union for NAs of PCTs, pay can vary widely based on experience for the same job title and responsibilities, new system for punishment and call offs is strict and over complicated. COVID absences are not excused. The nurse assistants are expected to do basically everything. I have worked at several hospitals and have never seen nurses do as little as they do here. To be frank the nurses here are spoiled and will ignore their own patients call lights even if they are doing nothing, you will do literally everything aside from passing meds, changing dressing, and catheters, good luck getting any help from most of them. If you have experience it might be worth going to another hospital or hospital system so you won’t be worked to the bone. This hospital has a nursing excellence award but a huge part of it is the NAs and they do seem to take the position for granted. If NA is your long term career, this isn’t the place for you. If you are in nursing school or seeking contact hours for medical school it might be ok. Also getting scheduled around school was difficult for several employees, so pick you availability carefully and pick up if you need more hours.
