      Pros

      The atmosphere of the graduate school and my department is very relaxed, which allows you to focus on getting research and other responsibilities done. Bureaucracy doesn't seem too bad.

      Cons

      Well, you're in the middle of nowhere. If you're used to a real city, this can get annoying, especially if you plan on spending six years here. Sure, there's good bus service to NYC, but that's only good for a short vacation every now and then, at best.

      Pros

      The grad student stipend is very high compared to other schools I looked at. Lots of opportunities to explore anything you are interested in through research, classes, and travel.

      Cons

      No guidance at all as an off main campus grad student. Had no idea what my benefits were for more than a year. Being a Geneva based grad student means years of frustration at commuting no matter where you choose to live. You either commute for classes or for research.

      Pros

      Extremely collegial - lots of chances to gain mentorship experience Motivated workforce - if you are interested in working hard, you will not be alone Excellent campus - Ithaca is one of the best college campuses in USA. It has continually been voted the best college town, two years in a row

      Cons

      Winter - Extremely long and cold - but if you survive the first one you will get through the next 3 or 4. Also you will realize how much weather effects our professional psyche Location - While it has an amazing campus, its still far away from big cities and therefore attending professional events is a slight challenge.
