Pros

Overall, a lot of the people I've met and/or worked with here are friendly enough. Cotopaxi has a very good reputation among the general populace.

Cons

There are politics involved here. If you don't have the ear of specific people then you can kiss any opportunities goodbye, especially in the department I'm working in. You will hear of false promises and see the complete incompetence of particular employees on a daily basis, yet for some reason these people are kept around. Nobody knows why. People are always working well outside their job descriptions. There is, of course, no additional compensation for this. Also, little to no appreciation. As far as I can tell, people, such as executives, have liked the work that's been done by us, but the team's treatment doesn't reflect that. I've heard a lot about the company reaching profitability. If the finances are such an issue then why is money being thrown around so much? It has happened multiple times where a problem comes up because of poor planning and organization and the immediate solutions are to throw money at it to make it go away. Instead of using money on financially poor and shoot-from-the-hip decisions, invest it into the employees that are right in front of you and have the necessary skills to come up with solutions before a situation can ever occur.

Thanks for the valuable feedback. There are certainly some good nuggets in here that we can work on. I appreciate your work with us, even if just in a part-time role (I assume it is likely at the warehouse or possibly doing photography). I'm sad to hear you've felt there are politics within your department, as this is something I've really prided our business in - creating a very flat and transparent organization. Looks like we can do better. Thanks again for your time in giving the feedback and letting us know where we have some blind spots! - Davis, CEO

Pros

- Cotopaxi is a star up, as such, most things have not been figured out, this is a great opportunity to be creative, define your own processes, and use your own tools to get your results! - One of the best perks of Cotopaxi is the people and the energy that they bring to the workplace. Most are young people with no fear to fail, ask and be taught. Great place to learn if you are in the first steps of your career. - The executive team has amazing leaders, outstanding professionals in their respective areas. Cotopaxi is in good hands. - The manager-subordinate relation is friendly and open, which allows to have a great mentor to guide your tasks, but also a good friend to listen to your work frustrations - As long as you get your job done, there's a lot of time flexibility to go pick up your kids, visit the doctor or any other errand that you need to run.

Cons

- Salary in general is lower than in other similar companies, but one must have in mind that the start up will eventually become a big company ($$). - Since it's a start up company, options for advancement are limited, but you might take on a lot more responsibility than the same position elsewhere, so you may not have the title (or salary), but you might be learning as much as any other manager out there. - In start-ups, everyone gets to do a bit of everything, but at Cotopaxi, sometimes is a LOT of everything, which may make your world overloaded and overwhelming. - No benefits like 401, roth, tuition reimbursement, etc.

Pros

- Leadership cares about the people here. I came from another outdoor industry distribution center, and the difference here is like night and day. Outside of fulfillment over there, no one cared about the people in the warehouse. Executives here make a concerted effort to get to know everyone that moves our products. It's refreshing and other companies could learn from them. - Change is a constant. You will learn more about your field, develop skills to accomplish new tasks that present themselves, and become a well-rounded employee/professional. Personal development is always happening. - Everyone here was drawn to Cotopaxi for it's mission and values. So we all have common ground from the moment we join the company. I know that 2% of everything I do is directly benefiting worthy causes. I think B Corps are the future of business, and we are showing everyone that we can succeed without giving up the core value of giving back.

Cons

- Compensation is an area that could use improvement, whether that is a 401k match or in some other form. Being a startup this is understandably tight. Culture and benefits like the stock options do make up for a lot of this. They don't pay the most, but they don't pay the least. They are upfront about it and are aware that this is something that needs to be a focus in the future. Honestly, if compensation is the most important thing on your career checklist, Cotopaxi is probably not the place for you. - There is always more work to do than time to do it. It's rough, but you learn to rely on others to help and that in turn builds close knit teams. - I would love to have more opportunity to take advantage of the wild time program and the unlimited vacation. It's awesome that we have it to begin with, but it can be tough to make that work/life balance happen.
