The personalities are, on average, really off. Too many incumbents come across like daycare providers, highly condescending and acting as though no one hired from the outside could possibly know anything at all about software development, explaining things to you that everyone anywhere already knows. But at the same time they tend to leave you out in the cold on internal stuff, stuff that you couldn't possibly know. It's almost like an unusually high proportion of coworkers have a Theory of Mind deficiency, or in other words an inability to envision the mental state of other people, if you know what I mean.
