A very apparent lack of opportunity for advancement for hourly administrative staff. You are hired at a certain pay and job level and it is very hard to grow except for small incremental dollar or less an hour raises yearly. Many higher up jobs are reserved for missionaries that raise their salaries. I saw many very talented, passionate people working in the same administrative roles for years, capable of doing much more but were in the same job since opportunity to become a team leader or grow in responsibility was not very accessible. The level of work done and asked for is not compensated fairly. You are asked to be spiritually, emotionally and professionally invested yet that is hard to do when you could make 4 or 5 dollars an hour more at another company doing the same job.
Working at Cru is also very hard if you don't fit perfectly into the evangelical mould. If you don't identify as a conservative, evangelical Christian and have differing views, you may be the minority. Speakers brought in and devotions read tend to display a very similar experience and set of beliefs. I guess this is what you sign on for though when you sign a strict statement of faith. Cru needs to work on diversity and respecting that there may be more than one way of looking at a theological topic. Christians for thousands of years have disagreed on theological topics and its not fair to say that "historically, there has been general agreement among all true Christians" when there have been disagreements and different denominations. They are working on becoming more diverse racially which I respect but I think they still have a long way to go. It still feels like the "old boys club" with the majority of leadership being conservative white males.
