Pros

Met some of my closest friends while working here. Work can be flexible and there are opportunities to travel.

Cons

Take a look at the demographics of the employees who have left reviews here on Glassdoor. Overwhelmingly, white employees (45 reviews) rate the organization at an average of 4.1 stars. In stark contrast, African American/Black employees (5 reviews) give it an average of 2.0 stars, and there are no reviews from other ethnic groups. If you are white and conservative, you will likely fit in here. However, this is NOT a safe space for anyone within the Queer community or their allies. The training programs indoctrinate staff on how to think about the Queer community, bordering on a cult-like atmosphere. There is a culture of monitoring what you say and where you choose to go to church. The policy mandates that you must attend a church that aligns with Cru’s statement of faith. They often tout “Oneness in Diversity,” but this only extends to optics. There is no true equity, inclusion, or belonging—just ask how many staff members of color have left in droves. I guarantee someone from Cru will respond to this review quickly, likely to gaslight and defend rather than make meaningful changes. This is an organization that prioritizes its conservative white donors almost every time. The international missions programs are still subtly rooted in colonial and white-savior tendencies, which are their real money makers. I know dozens of staff who want to leave but can’t due to investing decades of their life here and needing the insurance. They just keep their opinions to themselves to avoid being flagged for not being “aligned.” Run away!

I'm sorry that your experience with us was hurtful. We are followers of Jesus who are trying to follow Him and we do have a statement of faith that reflects what we believe Scripture teaches. As a result, we do ask that our staff agree with this and our mission.

Pros

• Flexible work hours • Get to travel a lot • Ability to try out various roles • Can reimburse medical expenses and some personal expenses as long as you have enough in your staff account • There are many great people to meet and befriend

Cons

• Leadership at headquarters tell half-truths to those below them to keep staff motivated and in-line • Cru takes 12% from what you personally raise and is not transparent with what they do with that money • Cru talks about diversity being a value but top leadership continues to promote white men into higher positions and use BIPOC as pawns • Moms/primary caregivers only have to work an average of 4hrs a week but can still get paid just as much as those without children/single people • They only care about getting people to accept Jesus, but they don't care about the whole person. Only that they've gotten people to become Christian • Often, instead of firing staff, they simply move them to another position. The culture can be toxic the higher you go in the organization • You may "move up" as a team leader or LMD, etc, however, you only gain more responsibilities with little power to make actual changes within your geographic region • This is a salaried job and you are HIGHLY overworked
