Pros

Very smart people, good documentation practices, products are probably gonna keep the company alive for many more years

Cons

- Super outdated technologies, employees here know nothing more than semiconductors. If you are a hardware engineer/designer, this is ok to ignore, but if you are not, you are working in a company that runs technologies back in 2005. - Non-existent benefit package. For a company this big, it is hard to imagine that you do not get any 401k contribution and your salary is below market average (about 15%). Very weak bonus package (as low as 20 dollars per quarter, no joke), very weak medical packages. Little to no perks. - Micromanages a lot. - Company shut down actually uses your own PTO - Too much politics to even think about career growth. - Too many old farts who worked here for 25, 30, 35 years who don't know anything about newer technologies (and therefore the company still runs, but will never grow in today's world) Overall, it is a very very dry place to work. You work long hours to get the bare minimum, literally nothing exciting, The company is not really "sinking" per se, but they definitely care very little about you. The stocks won't go anywhere so you can forget about it.

Pros

The engineering teams are filled with smart people. The company is still lead by the founder who also happens to be a tech savvy engineer and business guru.

Cons

There is no room for advancement. There are too many high paid managers and not enough people doing the actual work. The pay is not competitive (20% under market). The benefits were never good, but in 2016 they are horrible. Management leaned too much on the stock plan to fill the compensation gap. Even before the recent decline the plan was basically worthless. Look at the CY stock history - it's been flat for 3 of the last 4 years - there is no growth here!

Pros

You'll do well in Design or Sales. Anything in Operations means that funding will be cut consistently to make any profit. Round Rock fab ran into the ground. Minnesota fab about to be run into the ground. Now Austin fab is getting cut. But it all means profit, which is a Pro I suppose.

Cons

Heavy reliance on outdated technology. Email syntax impersonal, idiotic and designed to fit in columns of a spreadsheet. Nobody knows you by your name, just your initials. Everyone around TJ is afraid of to tell him he is running his company wrong. Austin fab was running on strong Texas ethics. Doing a lot of work, with few people, no red tape, no complaints. Now we are crushed with California bureaucracy. The best and brightest are leaving in droves and now they are about to announce another 10% RIF as we were running skeleton already. Glad I escaped when I did.
