Pros

Very intelligent colleagues and good product that customers appreciate. Salary is generally competitive for this industry and benefits are solid (although they have recently eroded for cost saving measures)

Cons

Group CEO vision changes daily. Employees are not treated with respect and trust. Tag lines such as "thrive, not just survive" are said to who will listen yet not one measurable action to improve staff satisfaction and engagement has been implemented. What they sell you when you interview is not close to what they deliver. Old School and Traditional Japanese culture makes communication difficult at best. Motivated employees will constantly feel undervalued. If you want to collect a paycheck and make lots of connections in the industry with great manufacturing shops, this is a good stop for your resume. If you want to do something special - look elsewhere. Your hard work, enthusiasm, and desire to take the company forward will not be recognized.

Pros

You get to work with some really precise and large equipment.

Cons

The manufacturing side has lots of issues. There is a lot of stop and go. Assembly almost shuts down every time the port of Oakland goes on strike. It feels as thought the Davis campus is the redheaded step child of the corporation in that the Japan headquarters does not seem to believe Davis any we have an issue. Even though it is a multi national corporation, there are clear social rifts between the Japanese and US employees and business components. And lastly, the current CEO, Dr. Mori, does not seen to have his priorities straight. He is extremely concerned with how things look and not how they function, and he has cost the company some pretty serious money in recent years because of this.

Pros

DMG MORI in Davis, CA: Benefits, company provided lunch, colleagues.

Cons

DMG MORI in Davis, CA: Management is demeaning and they micromanage from the top-down. Seriously, the President meets with every department once a month and expects an update from each team member. Pay may appear decent at first, but pay increases and promotion opportunities are far and few unless you are willing to prioritize work over your mental health and personal life. But oftentimes even that isn’t enough. And it’s partly why this company experiences such insanely high turnover. I thought the work environment would improve over time, but it actually consistently got worse and worse... and worse. Expectations are often unreasonable: setting impossible and stressful deadlines, forcing mandatory overtime (especially since so many people are quitting and not being replaced) and then not approving paid time-off requests even after a person has capped out on their hours. It's unbelievable and I wish it wasn't true. It may appear to be a good company from the outside, but that's far from the truth. You could ask anyone currently working there. Management is reactive, condescending and have high egos. I would avoid this company at all costs unless you are absolutely desperate or if it's for the short-term. You would be wasting your time and impeding your growth otherwise.
