      Pros

      Opportunity at a growing and diverse company only limited by investment that you are willing to make. Technical experts on staff to help with any issue. Competitive pay and great benefits.

      Cons

      Lots of initiatives underway by management which creates the opportunities but can be disruptive to the day to day project work. Geographic spread creates more opportunities and technical solutions like video conferencing bridge the distances.

      Thanks for the comment and the suggestion to push opportunities to all levels of the company. Upward mobility is our mantra. Yes, the company has many improvement initiatives underway and we need to be mindful of not changing too much too fast. Fortunately we have many talented folks that are not satisfied and are always looking to make changes that add value for our clients.

      Pros

      Large engineering firm started in Alaska, now covers several western states. Vast array of projects in portfolio and diverse set of employees are great resources. Good solid people in all levels that want the best for the company and employees.

      Cons

      A little too focused on expansion at the moment. Training is somewhat lacking. Not enough people to get the work done, so always on overload.

      Yes, very solid people on board the bus and the company is financially strong and culturally centered. The company is growing and we have plans and aspirations to continue on a trajectory of planned expansion in geography and service lines. This expansion is designed to create new opportunities for those existing employees that want new challenges in their career, as well as those that we may add in the future. Great comments. Thanks.

      Pros

      The opportunities are endless at DOWL HKM. The more you put into your job, the more you get out of it. Nice work environment, experienced staff, interesting projects, room for advancement. DOWL HKM is a career, not a job.

      Cons

      With a medium sized company, sometimes things aren’t as quick to change as a smaller company. More standards and protocols are needed to make the business function properly, but they can slow things down.

      This is a great point and thanks for making it. We like to focus less on providing jobs (you can get one of those almost anywhere). We provide opportunities to add value and be part of a team that is improving the world and working with great clients in the best communities. We do have a few more checks and balances and policies and procedures then when I started with the company in 1994. But at DOWL we often talk about thinking big, and acting small. I might concur that we are patient (maybe overly so) with those on our roster that struggle to get their footing at DOWL. We would rather err on that side, then on the side of harshness and impatience in matters relating to employee relations.
