Pros

Get to work on a lot of unique projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. Pay is good and the fellow employees are great.

Cons

A little slow to evolve to the modern age of dynamic change. However, DOWL is getting better at this and is a good company to work for.

Great advice and I assure you that we dedicate a sizable portion of our budget to modernization of our tools and software expenses. In fact, our software budget alone in the company is around $3 M annually. We are trying to spend that money effectively and eliminate duplication of software packages and equipment, but it is hard when you are serving multiple clients in multiple states with client driven demands/requirements. DOWL will continue to invest heavily in training to make for the best, happiest, most motivated, most trained, and most well-equipped work force in our industry. Thanks again for the recommendations and suggestions.

Pros

DOWL has a positive and supportive work environment. They encourage career growth and excellent performance and reward staff accordingly. They provide opportunities to work with an excellent team of professional, delivering unique and interesting projects with a diverse range of clients over a significant geographic base. They offer highly competitive compensation and benefits as well as the rewarding camaraderie that comes with like minded professionals.

Cons

I have not come across any downside.

We work hard to stay in touch with the people driving the company to make sure they are engaged and feel appreciated. Authentic and heartfelt thank yous and asking for advice and being human are critical to success and feeling of being appreciated.

Pros

Friendly and helpful co-workers and a variety of interesting projects to work on. Competitive salaries, excellent work environment, very generous 401k plan. All in all a great place to work!

Cons

Very high deductible insurance plan takes some adjustment, but maybe typical these days for smaller companies. Still a little perplexed by the leave policy for full time employees. I understand we all work over time and while it is nice to have that acknowledged in a form of comp time, (which actually forms one's paid leave for the year), I still believe full time employees should be entitled to federal holidays and not have to earn leave for them.

Welcome aboard and thanks for the positive review. DOWL constantly examines our benefits program and that includes our open leave policy for exempt employees. This policy has been in place for the legacy DOWL company since its inception almost 60 years ago. Depending on a which employee you ask, it is either a great way to recognize professionals that allows them to personally meter their work, or it is an atypical system that should be scrapped in favor of an accrual system. We have invested much energy in crafting a new policy/plan with the help of employee focus groups. Hopefully we have struck a balance that bridges the gap between the two philosophical camps - at this point we intend to roll it out in January 2019.
