Pros

I worked with a wonderful team that made each day a bit easier. It was fulfilling to make an impact with care for a challenging patient population.

Cons

I was part of the post acute/skilled nursing “start up” and it was a mess. The role I was in had zero definition, no training, minimal support (the senior GM offered to come out and train me if I planned the whole thing…how would I do that??), and ultimately they eliminated the role on the claim of too much travel expenses. So they replaced it with fewer of a slightly different role with higher travel expectations, seems illogical. But that’s how the SNF team is run, illogically in whatever direction the general manager wakes up feeling like he would like to go. Cherry on top, even though I was part of a role elimination they blacklisted me so I was unable to get another role at the company. Pay remains inline with DaVita as a whole, it’s below industry and not balanced with the work load. The culture is weird. Parts of it are great, others plain off putting. Things like requiring adults to share hotel rooms, no one needs to get that kind of up close and personal with their coworkers. Ever.

Pros

I worked with an amazing team and had access to high-ranking leaders who were quite down to earth. Everyone at DaVita is very friendly and caring and it truly feels like a family. I can’t speak for all teams but I was able to advocate for myself on a number of occasions as I had a very supportive supervisor.

Cons

The company relies on this niche of “being special”, but I’m unsure if they realize many companies believe that to be true of themselves. While there is a family-like culture, like all families, there is favoritism and the company culture rewards overwork which can result in burnout. There is also a bad habit of constantly promoting leaders who have no leadership or supervisory skills and simply provide results - to say I was unimpressed with many mid-level leaders is an understatement. In my time, observed an environment that did not allow for a healthy work/life balance. Many times I witnessed dedicated parents who worked hard during their work hours but clocked out at 5pm get passed over for promotions (or take longer) than those without families who worked until all hours of the night; across several teams.

Pros

The staff level people are great, live the Davita way and serve patients the best they can despite leadership obstacles and toxic behaviors.

Cons

To call Davita Leadership unethical and heartless would be an insult to companies that actually are; Davita is much worse. Over a billion in settled/buried lawsuits defrauding the government/taxpayers, killing their patients with recalled meds, not paying overtime because they can exploit people not wanting to lose their medical credentials and now anti-competitive practice indictments. Don't worry, they have great lawyers and non-disclosure/disparagement to bury the bad press. At least they didn't kill people this time.
