Lots of Changes Mostly for the Better

Pros

The company has gone through major mostly positive changes since it spun out from Rockwell Collins a couple years ago. Management is promoting a more entrepreneurial culture and things seem to be heading in the right direction. There is a big focus on new products, technologies and markets, and they are hiring a lot of sales people. So there are interesting new projects to work on if you want to try your hand at something different.

Cons

The flip side is there are a lot less resources without the big company deep pockets. Everyone is expected to do more and work on things outside of their regular job. It isn't overbearing, but it isn't a 9 to 5 place anymore. That's expected in a smaller company, but some people need to either get on board or move on. There is too much complaining from some, especially in engineering and field service.

Pros

Much better culture since leaving Rockwell. Current management is investing in the right things and keeping people informed as we grow. I like the longer term view our owners have so we're not always struggling for quarterly results.Much better atmosphere than two years ago. Looking forward to seeing where we go in 2016.

Cons

Now that we don't have Rockwell to support us; we have to stand on our own. Tough building all the functions that Rockwell use to do for us. Bonus tied to company and personal performance, not just personal performance; so can't control bonus.

Good Company, Steady Growth

Pros

Decent benefits (used to be stellar), good work/life balance, 2 weeks paid vacation (was 3 but not for under 10 years of service). Stocked break rooms are great and the technology used is modern. Most employees are prior service and that generally means no nonsense.... generally.

Cons

Poor contract acquisition has left this company strapped for cash and it shows. Nothing new on the horizon has people worried. Management only holds meetings when there is something good about to happen. When they are silent for months at a time that generally means layoffs or we are being purchased/sold. Upper management/Vice Presidents seem to be rewarded for failure while the rest of us get salaries cut/vacations cut/health insurance stripped. Accountability up the ladder seems nil while the little guy takes the brunt of the layoff stick.
