Move Fast, Have Fun

Pros

I get to learn everyday working at Deepgram. The flat company structure makes the exec team feel accessible and highly involved in day-to-day operations. Leadership is open to thinking outside the box and dropping processes that aren't serving us. My co-workers are kind and competent, and eager to help when things get hectic. This is a great place to grow.

Cons

Because we move fast, sometimes communications get dropped. This has been much improved in the past few months, as we've adopted weekly company All Hands and better internal reporting.

Wasted potential

Pros

Deepgram is almost a great place to work. It is a startup so the hours are long, but there are smart people, challenging problems, and good compensation. Heirarchy is fairly flat and you can talk to almost anyone.

Cons

Leadership is too busy trying to catch up to competitors to make intelligent business decisions. Most time is spent imitating products of bigger companies. Morale is low after multiple rounds of layoffs and management seems disconnected both from the company and broader industry. While the CEO is transparent about the state of the company, this is not very comforting as he does not seem to have a vision for how we will "win". Hours are getting even longer after layoffs and taking use of unlimited PTO is discouraged.

Great people. Great tech. Slightly secretive execs.

Pros

Compensation is generous. Benefits are great. No A-holes, in general. Full-remote (if not in Bay Area or Ann Arbor)

Cons

Exec team can be a little clique-y, but CEO is generally good about being transparent. Manager feedback can sometimes be either nitpicky, or vague. Remote work is generally great, but I wish there was more time to socialize with colleagues.
