1. If you’re in the DMV area your underpaid so much that it is disrespectful. After learning that colleagues in other organizations were making DOUBLE my salary to do less work it became difficult for me to mentally work there. To make matters worst, senior management teams aren’t willing to adjust the pay scale and instead have started recruitment in areas outside of DC to justify the low pay. CSMs in other tech companies in similar size start off with a base of $120-160K. After 11 years I barely saw 100K. The pay structure is worst with 20-40% commissions expect half of that since it is taxed heavily by Uncle Sam….my net pay was under $70k. Because of this pay difference and the amount of women working in the organization I cannot help but think of how they’ve contributed to the national wage gap between men and women. Don’t come here expecting a annual raise… you may get 3% compared to other companies ranging 10-15%. To keep underpaying people and justifying it all of the job announcements listed under a different states with average pay less than the DMV area.
2. Diversity. While there I served proudly on the Black Voices employee resource group and I appreciate engaging my coworkers from all walks of life on the black experience. I also know that Deltek would like to be more diverse, however, I to question if it is genuine! Before leaving I took the extra step of getting resumes from black/brown folks in my network and when it was time to turn it over I was shocked to learn that my position had pretty much already been backfilled. Now that I’m with another organization that pays $3k for referrals guess where those names are now going ???? As a HBCU graduate from university 40 minutes away from headquarters, I’ve volunteered to be a intermediary (mind you I’m also the former intern of the university’s President) and still nothing. Recently I noticed s uptick in black/brown onboarding employees as I was making my exit, however, they are being hired outside of the DMV area so I can’t help but question are they receiving a fair compensation.
3. Professional Development- while amazing during the first half of my career it is virtually nonexistent beyond year 3.
4. Benefits…. 401k matching is a joke. Overpriced healthcare insurance, I paid $250 a check now that I’ve left I’m paying $125 for my family.
5. Depending on the department you may be overworked!! When I started interviewing places, the hiring manager totally shocked by my account load and responsibilities….they would always end up telling me all the things that I would no longer do as a part of my new role.
In closing do I recommend Deltek….yes and no!! If your a leader in your career and looking for better compensation and growth opportunities then I would say look elsewhere. If you’re new to the field and want to learn more then Deltek is the perfect place! Despite the cons I realize…..they laid a solid foundation when I initially embarked in this field.
