Pros
- Fully remote is amazing - office is pretty nice - A lot of nice people - A lot of resources to learn from, if you choose to go out of your way to find them - On some teams, the chaotic environment is great for go-getters who want to take initiative and learn some leadership skills. Since everything is so messy, if you want to be a leader you can definitely take the initiative and do so. - On some teams, the chaotic environment is so bad you can be a slacker and blend into the noise. Some teams are so disorganized if you don’t meet deadlines expect basically no consequences.
Cons
- Very short-term thinking by leadership. Heavy cost-cuts mean clients don’t have their needs met, which has resulted in a massive loss of clients, which results in more short-term desperate cost cutting. Lots of layoffs and angry clients all around. Requires thick skin to survive such dysfunction. - Lots of new processes and paperwork rolled out by leadership seemingly every month, which is rarely followed by anyone and is clearly designed for leadership to cover their tracks instead of actually improving productivity. The red-tape bloat is maddening and highly political in nature. - Dentsu prefers cycling through new employees every year instead of investing in the medium/long term growth of their talent. With that in mind, expect minimal/no promotions. Perhaps you will get a title bump but your compensation won’t increase accordingly (if at all). - Poor organization structure results terrible incentives. Hard work is not rewarded. Going above-and-beyond is expected but has no benefit. Low-quality work might end up screwing over someone else, but you’ll likely be fine. - This is a company that often uses fear of punishment as the backbone for employee motivation rather than excitement to achieve. Not too bad if you learn the rules and keep your head low, but a repellant for actual talent. - Teammates, especially junior team members, frequently work weekends and late into the night. As stated above, they are motivated by fear rather than ambition. The anxiety in every meeting is palpable. If you can learn to tolerate the chaos, the job can be sometimes fun, but this is not a healthy place to work.
